I'm a big believer in having a positive mental attitude (PMA). But,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I'm,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], amazed at how many people pooh-pooh the idea of PMA.
In Jim Collins' book,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "Good to Great",[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he writes about something they call The Stockdale Paradox. Admiral Stockdale (retired) was known for his unique perspective on addressing difficult situations.
I can't think of a more balanced and positive outlook,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].

Perhaps what makes people skeptical is that some of those who THINK they have a positive attitude really are living in another world. They have a "Pollyanna Attitude". They aren't thinking positively; they're simply avoiding the truth. They have their head in the sand, and they refuse to acknowledge their problems and obstacles.
Action Point
Make sure you're being positive as well as realistic. Be honest with yourself about where you're being positive and where you might simply be ducking the truth. By employing the Stockdale approach,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you'll be a positive person with your eyes wide open.
In doing so,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they avoid reality and obfuscate their ability to achieve their best.

Many have been touched by horrible diseases or natural disasters and simply want to help others. Having had a number of patients with said diseases and family members die from them, I most certainly can understand as well as anyone.
One way or another, we are setting the example for others. Why not make it an example worth while.

What came before and what's upcoming aren't here now. If I am self conscious, I know that what's important is that my work feels right when I'm doing it. And when I complete my work, it is good, fulfilling, productive work that makes me feel positive,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], enlightened, contributory ... So, I choose my view: Work is a good thing, something to look forward to, and enjoy, and embrace for what it can do for me and for others right now.
I wonder, if we welcome the light of being self conscious, can we change this problem of semantics and break these old habits?

What do I make of that? My work came from my heart as a living, breathing, valuable thing; a thing of worth. There's another one: worth. Though my heart's work has not yet made the Oprah show, that doesn't mean that it does not have worth. Perhaps the value in my work is destined to be attained post mortem. I don't know. I hope not, but all I can do right now is believe in its worth to me and to others. Why? Because it feels right. I choose to believe that my work will make a difference for the better for many people. I can't worry or waste energy wondering when or if that's going to happen in a big worldwide way... I know that it has happened in small ways for many people close to me.
Take work for example. I can work on a project, whether it is hard physical work outdoors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or work on a writing project seated at my desk. Either can involve non-stop commitment of large portions of time. I've sat writing at my desk for up to twelve hours before. In my mind, I was productively working. My energies seemed to be self sustaining, and I felt great achievement and elation when I finally put down my pen.
Take it one step further. Conscious of my self. How's that feel? Conscious equates to awareness, right? Aware(ness) meaning: "knowing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], realizing, conscious" in the dictionary. Not Old English. Awareness meant something more like cautious back then. But that was then,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], this is now. Self awareness isn't even in my old Webster's dictionary, so in my mind that means I get to make up whatever definition I want. It's my life, and I have a terrific talent for deduction. So,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], self awareness equals, self conscious. Makes sense to me. That leads me to make the statement that perhaps much of the seeming roadblocks to progress, change,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and or success in life right now are tied up in simple semantics.

Self Conscious. When did the term take on negative or weak connotations? I wonder.

Are we often mindlessly carrying on a tried and true habit of trying to convince others of our extreme burdens in the unconscious hope of eliciting some draft of empathetic energy? In my experience, it is much easier and much more fulfilling to generate your own energy from good positive work well done. Really, it's all in your chosen definition of the word. The power is all in your mind.
We need to be self conscious.
That makes me feel good, but I still must be self conscious. I cannot let the lack of worldwide acknowledgement put up a roadblock to my continued work. I also cannot let the positive achievements I have attained, and acknowledgements from people I've helped, let me think I cannot do better or more or different than what I've done before, nor let that small kudos be enough to pacify my need and desire to produce more.
Is to "live" simply to exist? Or is it an ongoing, malleable process of change and resultant feeling? For myself, I voluntarily opt in for the latter.
Not ill at ease. Not an object of scrutiny. Reverse the term and try it on in your mind: conscious self.

Here's a thought to ponder: Humans are the one creature on earth who seek and strive to control every single thing on the planet ... except themselves,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
It hit me today, that the multitude of healers, energy workers, average Joe's, and seekers of change are all chanting, looking for, and finding the same answer.

I found a road sign for myself embedded within her story as I am very familiar with setting my expectations too high,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Some of us take those road signs for granted - maybe a bit presumptuous at times - such as a sign stating the speed limit,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I ignore it and speed on by - - or how about not paying attention and missing the exit which perpetuates me backtracking,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Such is life - or is it?
Upon reading them I quietly asked myself, am I being thoughtful to me, am I acknowledging my essence as an expression of God or am I being pompous and telling myself that there's so many things that I've got to get done, I don't have time for me or for God? Ouch. Double whammy - error thinking.
I asked her to bring to mind someone that she admires and what about that person is it that she is in admiration of. She shared "her friend is thoughtful" - I'm thinking to myself, now we're getting somewhere. The energy is shifting.
Today I had a conversation with a woman who shared how bad things have been this past week. I asked her about the good things in her life - she shared a few and resumed telling all of the things that went wrong. Her expectations weren't met. In the course of our conversation she came to realize that her expectations are set so high that no one can reach them, not even herself.

Being thoughtful is 180 degrees of unachievable expectations.
This woman intends to focus on "thoughtful" this week; thoughtfulness in others and in of herself and to keep a daily journal of her 'finds'.
With me being introspective, signs and cues are important contributions to my life. There are those times I'm arrogant with my thinking - telling myself I'll get away with what I'm doing. Sometimes I do and then there are those times, it comes back to bite me in the butt. So what's the big deal I say? It's the law of average, right?
After our conversation, I checked my email. Wouldn't you know I had three emails all delivering the same message: was I listening to my inner knowing? I didn't need to ask if they were a road sign.
Life is great!
For every time that I 'get away' with something I know that's out of alignment with my values,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I am compromising my integrity which has a direct impact on all of my life. The 'get away with' is error thinking.
